I’m
Jon Rehwoldt. I live in Chicago, Illinois. I’m a self taught
painter. I primarily work in acrylics and sometimes incorporate
collage into my pieces. I mess around in music. I played drums
in a band called Horror Vacua. I record music on my own from time
to time. I’ve started to do that more often recently. I
also have a great interest in film and ever expanding video library.
You can find my opinions of the movies I watch, amongst other
things, at my blog.
ART

Where To Start
I
fumble with words and have difficulty making sense and expressing
my thoughts. While the paintings may not be any more elegant,
they are certainly accurate.
Process
I have no
formal process. I sit and stand and kneel and squat stone-faced
in front of canvas with brushes and pigment, smearing out shapes
and lines. This is unconventional joy. The most difficult part
is deciding when the painting is done for the day and when it
is done for good.
What
Is There
The people
and the fragments of people in the paintings are alone. Even when
there is more than one figure on the canvas, they exist outside
the context of any earthly situation. They exist on a separate
plain. As odd or gloomy as they may seem, they are true innocents.
The paintings’ titles are unrelated but complimentary to
the content, like watching a muted TV with the radio on.
I
hesitate to say much more as I like people to take what they will
from viewing the paintings.
I
plan to edit and expand this page as time passes. If you would
